Coming up with a logo is an exceedingly difficult task. There are no right or wrong answers and you’re never going to come close to pleasing everyone. You could give the job to Picasso or Rembrandt and you’re still going find detractors who don’t find it appealing for any number of reasons.
Ditto for the tagline that touts your town, the clever or inspiring slogan you can turn into a hashtag and use in your marketing campaigns. You come up with an intriguing catchphrase only to Google it and find some other town or group is already using it.
Cinnamon Toast New Media took on that difficult task for the Town of Amherstburg as part of a $76,000 rebranding contract. They conducted surveys and came to town and held public meetings. Amherstburg residents told them we cared deeply about our town's history and that we were a friendly, laid-back community with spectacular shoreline views.
That work helped form the foundation for the logo and tagline they are presenting for Council’s approval Monday night. I’m very curious to hear what Amherstburg residents think about the logo and the slogan. Please take my two-question survey or email me your feedback at [email protected].
Read the council report and review Cinnamon Toast's detailed proposal.
The Logo is above and to the right. The tagline is 'Born to make history.'
Like any creative project of this sort, there is no right or wrong and no black and white. Just a whole lot of grey. Ten per cent of the submissions are going to knock your socks off, ten per cent are going to have you covering your eyes, and 80 per cent are going to be in the great big middle, from not so bad to OK to pretty darn good.
Have a look, give it a soak and let me know what you think!
Thanks and Go Aburg!
