Art Auction To Raise Money For Amherstburg Parks

A team of volunteers is planning an art sale and silent auction in late February to raise money to improve Amherstburg parks.

The Art for Parks event is being organized by Kurt Reffle and Shawn Wilkie along with a team of passionate volunteers. The event is being held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 25 at the AMA Sportsmen Association on Lowes Side Road.A piece of art to be auctioned at the Art for Parks event.

Tickets to the event can be purchased for $15 at the door or in advance at Musicland on Richmond Street.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Town for improvements to Warren Mickle Park as will proceeds from the art sale and auction.

Mickle Park was chosen as Town administration has it as the next park in line for improvements. The Town is currently seeking feedback on updating the playground equipment and you can fill out the survey until Feb. 12 on Talk The Burg!

“Here’s a chance to spend your money where you want it to go and make it a community effort,” said Reffle, who borrowed the art auction idea from an event in Windsor. “Creative people bring creative ideas and those ideas spark other ideas that can bring people to our Town and investors and economic development.”

So far, more than 125 pieces of art have been donated by artists including Dennis White, Daniel Bombardier, Greg Nemeth, Madison Young, Elio DelCol, Rob McClellan, Lena Purdie, Julie Amlin and Kelly O’Rourke. There are also framed photos from the Marsh Collection and a signed copy of Meg Reiner’s new book, Heritage Buildings of Amherstburg.

Prizes have also been donated including signed hockey jerseys, tickets to Pinocchio at the Chrysler Theatre and tickets to see the Amherstburg Admirals.
