Amherstburg businesses, experiences and attractions, including Open Air Weekends and our downtown shopping district, have been nominated 31 times in 24 categories in the 9th Annual Best of Windsor-Essex awards.
River Lights Winter Festival, King’s Navy Yard Park, the ghost tours at Park House Museum, Gibson Gallery and multiple historic sites are among the nominees that include local restaurants, a brewery, a distillery, a bustling market in McGregor and a challenging mini golf course in the heart of Malden.
King’s Navy Yard Park was named Best Park or Garden in Windsor-Essex last year, a category it has won for several years running. It is nominated in that category again this year as well as in two other categories – Favourite Photo Op in Essex County and Best Picnic Spot in Windsor-Essex. It will be even better once the fence comes down and it links with the Duffy's property!
Multiple nominations were also earned by Riccardo’s Italian Restaurant, which was nominated in three categories – Date Night Spot, Pasta House and Patio. Also nominated in the Patio category was Wolfhead Distillery in McGregor, which was also nominated for Art of the Cocktail, a category it won last year.
Pepper Cat was nominated in the Best Date Night Spot category and neighbouring Salty Dog was nominated in the Best Lunch Spot Category. Nearby, Waterfront Ice Cream was nominated in the Best Ice Cream Parlour category and Burger 67 was nominated in the Best Burger Joint category, along with Gilligan’s.
As might be expected, Amherstburg dominates the Best Historical Attraction category, occupying two spots with the Amherstburg Freedom Museum and Fort Malden National Historic Site. The popular ghost tours at Park House Museum were nominated in the Best Tour Experience category.
The Amherstburg Farmers Market was nominated in the Best Farmers Market or Shop category and so was the Farm House Market in McGregor and Pit's Fresh Veggies in Malden. Just down Howard Avenue, G.L. Heritage Brewery was nominated again for Best Brewery Experience and the Little White Church was nominated in the Unique Stay category.
Holiday Beach was nominated in the Best Birding Hub category and the ERCA Greenway, which has a terminus on Thomas Road and runs all the way through McGregor, was nominated in the Best Trail category. While it’s technically not in Amherstburg, River Canard Canoe Co. was nominated in the On the Water category.
