Multiple concepts were unveiled Wednesday night for Jack Purdie Park and the northern portion of H. Murray Smith Centennial Park and now we want to hear from you, the residents of Amherstburg!
Wednesday night’s livestream was just the beginning of this park visioning and public consultation process. Take a look and consider and compare the concepts posted on Talk The Burg, listen to the video presentation by CAO John Miceli and Heidi Baillargeon, Director of Community and Protective Services, and fill out a survey to ensure your voice is heard.
Staff will take in all the public feedback and potentially modify or tweak the concepts based on the public input ahead of a second public consultation session planned for the autumn. Only after that second public consultation period will recommendations come to Council, when the public will again have the opportunity to have their voices heard.
There are two separate surveys. There is one for Jack Purdie Park and there is another for H. Murray Smith Centennial Park. Please take the time to fill out these surveys to ensure your opinion is catalogued and forms part of the public record. These are your parks and this is your community and your feedback is vital to this process. The deadline to submit the survey is August 1, 2021. For a hard copy of the survey, please contact Town Hall at 519-736-0012.
Some of the concepts envision nothing but parkland enhanced with recreational amenities selected through community consultation. Since there are no land sales with these all-park concepts, there is no funding generated to pay for those recreational amenities.
Other concepts feature a mix of enhanced recreational amenities coupled with the sale of land parcels for affordable or supportive housing, which addresses the community need for additional housing stock while also generating funds that can be used for recreational amenities. All of the concept plans for Centennial Park envision a seniors assisted living facility on the site where the former Amherstburg Community Services building sits.
The concepts are below. You can also view them in the documents section of Talk The Burg, where the surveys and other documents like the Parks Master Plan can be viewed and downloaded.
